Abstract Funding provided by a GWEC instructional grant was used to purchase a set of Digilent CMod-C2 programmable logic device modules to enhance a junior-level communication systems laboratory. The laboratory is an integral part of the Communication Systems ECE310 course at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. The modules have been used to upgrade an existing multi-week laboratory project in which students construct, test, and document an infrared digital data link. Principle accomplishments are· - Up-to-date programmable logic devices have replace obsolete technology.·
- Students have been able to leverage programming experience gained in prior courses·
- Enhanced capabilities of the new devices allow students additional flexibility and opportunity for creativity in accomplishing the objectives of the laboratory exercises.
