Award Information, Nomination and Application ProceduresDeadline is Jan. 18, 2010 The Wireless Educator of the Year Award, sponsored by the Global Wireless Education Consortium (GWEC), is given annually to up to two (2) academic instructors from all levels of postsecondary education (two-year associate, baccalaureate, graduate) in recognition of their programmatic and individual contributions to wireless engineering, communications, systems and/or technology education. The purpose of the award is to honor distinguished educators and to recognize their pivotal role in educating and preparing tomorrow's wireless technology leaders.
QualificationsNominees will be evaluated on a number of criteria. The educator should possess many of the following: - Evidence of achievement would include excellence in teaching; research; publications; papers given at technical conferences; participation in the development or authorship of instructional material or a text; curriculum, course and/or laboratory development; and other awards or activities.
- Demonstrated involvement and/or support of students in wireless projects or initiatives (e.g., mentoring, lab assistance, capstone projects, placement of students with internship or employment opportunities, advising and counseling students before and after graduation, etc.), representing some connection beyond a lecture in a classroom.
- Ability to inspire students to high levels of accomplishment. Evidence of achievement would be student awards or commendation, scholarships for further study in wireless, and job placement for students within the wireless industry upon graduation.
- Demonstrated collaboration with industry.
- Demonstrated collaboration with other academic institutions.
Each educator will be notified of his/her nomination and in order to be considered, must agree that, should they be awarded "Wireless Educator of the Year", they will attend the GWEC Summit, May 1, 2009 on the campus of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology for personal acceptance of their award and will make a presentitaion at the Summit. NominationNominations may be made by any individual affiliated with any entity worldwide. Candidates may be full-time, part-time, adjunct, tenured or non-tenured faculty, instructors or administrators affiliated with a wireless program. Candidates can be nominated or apply directly (self-nominate). No individual shall receive the award more than once. Members of the GWEC Board of Directors are not eligible to receive the award during the year(s) in which they are serving on the Board. - Participation in the development or authorship of instructional material or a text
- Laboratory development
- Other awards or activities
- Recommendation: Convey in 500 words or less why the nominee should receive recognition as a GWEC Wireless Educator of the Year.
- Supporting letters (no less than one) from colleagues, former students, etc.
- OPTIONAL Applicants may include up to three relevant supporting items, such as a videotape, CD Rom, award citation, article reprints, or measures of student success. Please be aware that materials submitted cannot be returned. Although these items may strengthen the nomination and provide further evidence of accomplishment, they are optional.
Note: If you are nominating an individual other than yourself, we encourage you to discuss the nomination with the person you wish to nominate as several of the questions below will require their input.
